Air China has confirmed the temporary closure of the transit desk at OR Tambo International.
In a notice sent out by the airline it said:
According to the requirements of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, all international passengers transiting to China via OR Tambo International Airport must undergo PCR and IgM antibody testing within 48-hours in the transit country.
Passengers with double negative test results can board the plane. As OR Tambo International Airport is currently unable to perform these two tests at the same time in the international transit area, Air China will temporarily close the international transit counter after reporting to the Chinese Embassy in South Africa for approval.
