COGTA reissues Level 1 Regs clarifying permitted accommodation occupancies

Last Updated on

Level 1 Regulations have been amended to clarify occupancy rates for accommodation establishments.

The Regulations issued on 14 December appeared to limit the occupancy of accommodation to 50% of available rooms. This was dismissed as a drafting error by the Tourism Business Council of South Africa.

The Gazette issued today, 17 December, clarifies the occupancies as follows:

Hotels, lodges, B&Bs, timeshare facilities, resorts and guest houses are allowed full capacity of the available rooms for accommodation, with patrons observing a distance of at least one and a half metres from each other when in common spaces.
